From Photo Meetups to Hummus and Venison Gyros

The 21st Century Photographers had a terrific meetup, at Waterfront Park, Saturday morning, in the wee dawn hours.

My photos, from the meetup, are here. I finally ventured into the Flickr Pro world.. You can check out the pool of shots, too.

This meetup was fun and it proves that I need to get out more. I love the new way I look at things..

On our way home, we stopped at Whole Foods. I didn't feel I was really in need of anything, specifically, but it is a great place to be when one is hungry. I buy better foods, on a whim, at Whole Foods, I guess.

I picked up some ready-made hummus, in cilantro/jalapeno and red pepper. I also picked up some yummy looking Tandoori bread.

So, tonight, I faced a dilemma of how to serve these..

I also have two ground Doe's in my freezer. I've been trying, hard, to get away from the same meatloaf, every other day, too. I decided to have them ground, because I'm not doing real well with whole meat and Venison is so lean, that I often over cook it, and I'm quite burned on kitchen disaster's..

So I ventured to the 'zaar..

I knew I had also picked up some pita bread and some whole milk yogurt, without pectin, in it.

I loved the reviews of this recipe for Grecian Meatloaf Gyros. It ended up being a great success.

I didn't have enough Oregano, so I used Tone's Italian Seasoning, instead.

I substituted roasted red peppers, from a jar, for tomatoes, because I didn't have any tomatoes. I also used venison, that is mixed with beef, for fat.

The meat is very good. It is very flavorful and somewhat spicy. I sliced it thin.

For the sauce, I drained yogurt, on cheesecloth, in a strainer, while I prepared everything.. with cooking time, about 1.5 hours.

After it drained, I squeezed out as much water and possible, and added fresh minced garlic and lemon juice. I chopped my Euro cucumber in large chunks, too.

Other than those few changes, I followed the recipe for the amounts of seasonings and cooking temp/time.

I served it right out of the oven. I didn't plan this out, well enough, in advance, to cool it and refrigerate it, to fry it.. but I can't wait to try it that way.

I couldn't get the recipe to kwout, without interruptions with ads.. so I just took some crappy screen shots.. I wanted to move the recipe, here, in case anything were to happen to it, at its original source.

That is how much we enjoyed it! :) I will be making this again.

My family was thrilled that it was "new" and "different."

When I came home from the Waterfront Photo Walkabout, I looked in the freezer and took out (two) packages of White Castle burgers.

Open the plastic wrapper, separate the two tiny Belly Bombers and microwave for 60 seconds. Open second package, repeat and eat all 4.

Nothing healthy at all but VERY tasty.

Yes, the photo outing was GREAT.

Hi Chuck.

I guess they don't sell those at Whole Foods, at all.

I'm a White Castle Virgin. My friends, in Indiana, tell me not to try them frozen. "Belly Bombers" sounds like they are just the same, to me, though. :)
